| WSSM Churches Together - Covenant History | |
On Sunday, 25th January 2009, over 170 people from the six Anglican and Methodist churches in West Hallam, Stanley, Stanley Common and Mapperley came together at a service of worship to celebrate the signing of a new agreement to work together in unity. The purpose of the agreement, or Covenant, was a commitment by the churches to plan and co-ordinate worship services, events and other activities which would fulfil the commitments of the Covenant which in turn responded to a clear mandate from the participating churches. This was an important milestone in the history of all six churches. Although three of the churches have had an agreement to work together for almost twenty years and all have worked together to some degree, this agreement provided for a greater unity between the family of churches, to the benefit of all the village communities. The Covenant was signed by representatives from each church and the Anglican and Methodist clergy - Rev'ds. Simon White, B J Facey and Tony de Boltz. The Covenant was witnessed by the Rt. Rev'd Alastair Redfern, Bishop of Derby, Rev'd Canon Wesley Blakey, Chairman of the Methodist District, and Roger Harvey, Ecumenical Officer for Derbyshire. Also present were Cllr. Barbara Harrison, Mayor of Erewash and representatives from the Borough Council and local Parish Councils, schools and uniformed organisations. The young people from the six churches produced wall plaques for each church with the motto TEAM means Together Everyone Achieves More
