Our Churches' Covenant 2008

We give thanks for the degree of communion which already exists between our congregations

- in the name of God, Source of all being, whose purpose is for all things in heaven and on earth to be united in Christ.
- in the name of Jesus Christ, eternal Word of God, who called us to be one.
- in the name of the Holy Spirit, who brings us into communion with God and with one another.

We acknowledge that living with diversity among Christians is a costly option. It requires a depth of relationship which itself is a powerful expression of unity. In the process of praying, working and struggling for unity, we know times of pain, restlessness, repentance and renewal as well as the joys of forgiveness and reconciliation.

We recognise that the unity of our churches is not yet complete, yet in faith we gladly declare our shared vision for the oneness of the Church:

- To confess faith in Jesus Christ.
- To proclaim the Gospel of Christ.
- To serve God in mutual accountability.
- To share in one mission of reconciliation in the world to heal divisions of race, gender, age, language, ability, colour and culture.
- To strive together for justice, peace and the care of creation.

We encourage all people in our churches to give their active and communal support and commitment to the growing relationship which we now confess in the name of the Triune God.

We therefore make this shared commitment to each other under God to fulfil our common purpose and calling, which is to unite people with Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit, and to show in prayer and action our oneness with each other and with our Triune God.
